Natsume Matcha's Story

Premium matcha, made accessible.

Natsume Matcha was born out of frustration and a trip to Japan.

Like many matcha lovers, I found myself constantly searching for high-quality matcha at a fair price, only to be met with sold-out pages and long waitlists. The best matcha seemed reserved for those who knew exactly where to look and were willing to wait.

That changed in September 2025, when I traveled to Uji, Kyoto, the heartland of Japanese matcha. Walking through the streets of Uji, my husband and I met a tea shop owner whose dedication to his craft was immediately clear. We talked, shared a cup, and I told him about my vision: to bring his matcha to my bakery and to people who deserved better than what was available to them. He agreed, and Natsume Matcha was born.

Every tin we sell comes directly from that farm, shade-grown, stone-ground, and harvested using traditional methods passed down through generations. We focus almost exclusively on First Flush, the first harvest of spring, when the leaves are at their most tender and vibrant. Because of this, our teas come in limited quantities, and we think that is worth it.

We believe exceptional matcha should not be a luxury. It should be part of your everyday.

A note on the name

Natsume is the lacquered container used to hold matcha during a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. It also happens to be close to my own name, Natalie, Nat, to the people I love. It felt like the perfect fit for a brand built on the beauty of matcha and the warmth of sharing it.
